Rifugio Crête Sèche

Sci alpinismo >> Salita al Rifugio Crete SecheFor any information on the hut you can read the home page of our site or contact Daniele and Ilenia, the managers of it. The hut, in springtime, is attended not only by expert sky tourers but also by snow shoes lovers. Keep in mind that in this season the hut is attended by adventure lovers that, to the detriment of comforts, wants to enjoy the real mountain life which brings us back fifty years, when our grandfathers had to melt snow in order to have some water and when a spell of intense cold lies in wait. Actually, the Hut hasn't got running water in spring, we use therefore melted snow and bottled water!

Going up to Crête Sèche Hut

Drive until Ru in the municipality of Bionaz (1697 m) where you will find a parking; snow permitting, put on your ski!
1.(with a few snow or consolidated snow) With a few snow or consolidated snow you may follow the dirt track until “Alpe Promont” or “Alpe Primo” (due to a mistake in some topographic charts); after two hairpin turns the track goes diagonally and at the end of it there is, on the left, a big stone with the sign “scorciatoia-raccourci rifugio” on it.

2.(with a lot of snow or unstable snow) With a lot of snow or unstable snow the first part of the route must take place following the right side (looking up at the hut) of the pastures on the right side of the dirt track. Departing from Ru's parking follow the dirt track for about 200 m; at the first bend leave the track and carry on over the pastures on the right (orographic left) for about 80 m of difference in height. Carry then on on the right side until reaching the end of the pastures and go up for about 250 m of difference in height following the slope to the edge of the wood until 80 m below the dirt track; go into the wood on the right and go up until crossing the dirt track again exactly where there is the big stone with the sign “scorciatoia-raccourci rifugio” on it.

Sci alpinismo >> Salita al Rifugio Crete SecheFrom that point on we will describe the same route for both snow conditions, because we advise ski tourers not to reach Alpe Berrier for then cross towards the hut as it's an avalanche risk zone. After the stone with the sign on it carry on following the dirt track for two hairpin turns (one on the left, one on the right). With snow shoes it would be better to go up following the ancient moraine which arise just below the hut and form, nowadays, a ridge that is easily identifiable after getting out of the wood. It begins on the left of the second bend ( before the stone's wall) and goes on vertically avoiding annoying crossing. That route will leads you to the hut safely even in case of unstable or heavy snow. For ski tourers, instead, it would be better to carry on for about 100 m more along the dirt track after the second bend and then leave the road and go up on the left side of it. There you will take the small valley that comes down directly from the Hut on the orographic left of the ridge described before.
For any information on snow conditions please feel free to contact Daniele to the Crête Sèche Hut.
